Discover the Way
Around the year 820, the tomb of St. James the Greater was found and immediately the sacred place was created to venerate his remains. Today, twelve centuries later, the pilgrimage is a unique experience in a globalised world.
The creation of the holy year in Santiago dates back to the 15th century. It is thought that the first in history may have been the Jubilee of 1428, or perhaps that of 1434, both of which were called by Archbishop Lope de Mendoza. The next one will be in 2021.
“Santiago no es el final del Camino, si no el principio.”
“Santiago is not the end of the Camino, but the beginning.”
